Product refresh helps crack down on fraud

10 July 2008

New search features released today by information broker CITEC Confirm will help shield the Australian community from individuals using an alias to disguise a history of bankruptcy.

Inclusion of alias names on the Bankruptcy Extract is one of several key improvements to CITEC Confirm’s National Bankruptcy product, part of a major technology refresh being rolled out by the information broker during 2008.

“Our expectation is that the ability to search easily for all alias names associated with a particular individual may act to deter some types of business fraud,” said CITEC Confirm General Manager Peter Buchan.

“Users will also benefit from the inclusion of a wildcard search facility that broadens the scope for potential matches to search criteria.

“Previously, when you entered a name, you needed to ensure that the name was exact in order to match-up with bankruptcy information.

“Our wildcard facility broadens the scope for users, allowing a search to yield useful results from scant initial information.

“To help narrow results, we’ve introduced the ability to search by gender.”

Clients will also benefit from the return of results as PDFs and the storage of results in the CITEC Confirm Inbox for the day of the search.

“We’ve also reduced the potential for accidental double ordering,” Mr Buchan said.

“The search button disappears from the search input screen and is replaced with an ‘In Progress’ alert, and the link ‘Order Extract’ becomes inactive once an Extract is ordered by clicking on it.

“Where clients can order Alias/Associated Parties information under Other Related Searches, the input fields will be pre-populated with search criteria. With the refresh, we’ve ensured that clients will not be charged for browsing Aliases, only for ordering an Extract of an Alias.

“These features will help our clients minimise the potential for human error and cost blowouts associated with routine searches.”

Other improved features include:

  • Search Browse, Result and Alias Browse screens emailed to the client on request
  • search receipts linked to a separate PDF, eliminating page break issues and permitting clients to view or print on a per search basis.

Through CITEC Confirm’s National Bankruptcy product, clients have direct access to the National Personal Insolvency Index maintained by the Insolvency and Trustee Service Australia.

CITEC Confirm is a division of the Queensland Government’s information, communication and technology provider, CITEC.

The business operates nationally and conducts about five million commercial information transactions each year for the Australian banking, finance, insurance, legal and property industries.
